We love you...

As hard as it to put in to words how much this program and the kids have meant to me over the last five years I feel like I should try. With God's help we have done mighty things (psalms 60:12). We reap what we sow (Galatians 6:9).The Lord taught me more over this period of time than I ever could have imagined. He taught me unconditional love, patience, and the real purpose of athletics. The point to it all is building life long relationships with one another AND more importantly glorifying HIS precious name. Sure it is great to break records, win championships, earn scholarships, and become all-state but thats just the little stuff. Theres nothing wrong with working hard to reach a goal BUT GOD has something so much better in store for us. Praise the Lord for revealing that to me. It makes my love for the sport that much deeper! The thought that He can use the passion we have for our sport to advance His kingdom is awesome and we are so blessed to have athletics as a platform. Before my time here I just didn't get it. God took these years to shape and mold me. I admit I didn't always get it right. I can recall times where I failed a child and my LORD by my actions of selfishness and pride. He always showed me the error of my ways and gently pushed me back on track. In turn the kids and our family grew closer in love and respect. I know that God will continue to bless the program by bringing the kids that are destined to be apart of it to practice. He always provides. I look forward to what all He plans now that the Hebert era is over and a new chapter is beginning. I hope you all will give Coach Ditt an opportunity to coach you with his amazing back ground and mutal love of the Lord. He has our support and we will help him in any way we can. I pray that the Lord help Jeremy and I to raise our own kids up loving and serving the Lord much like the ones we have coached through the years. I pray also that He bring us back to coaching when the season of life is right... Until then we will treasure the memories of each one of you like our own children..

All of our love- Linzie, Jeremy, Hallie, and baby Owen :)

In no particular order...
Caleb-The warrior
Corey- The HUGE heart
Chase- The natural
Zac- The musician
Hunter- The epic comedian
Dylan- The wild heart
Hope- The nurturer
Lindsey- The Child like spirit
Nicole- The competitive encourager
Kaila-The veteran
Kelsey-The closing kicker
Shelby T-The wonderer
Jordan- The beautiful voice
Kaitlyn- The giver
Avery- The lover of the WORD
Ashlen-The suprising power house
Austin- The sweet heart
John-The silent gift
Josh-The hard worker and the next in line
James-The missionary
Lupo- The 800 beast!
Mark- The fun random one
Faith- The awesome stride
Tim-The constant improver
Jason- The huckaberry fin country lovin big heart
Jacob B- The baby of the bunch
Jake- The wrestler
Jared- The Big red
Hailey- The fastest I have ever seen...
Dakota-The Byrd fan!
Landon-The excellent pacer
Chris N.-The persistent one
Hannah D-The best texter:)
Holly- The little engine that could
Shelby D.-The future endurance queen
Hannah N- The happy soul
Chandler-The easiest not to get mad at
Eric- The sarcastic one
Abby- The quiet one
Kristen-The late season blessing

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://calvarycrosscountry.blogspot.com/2011/05/new-beginnings-we-love-you.html' title='New beginnings! The All State Wall of Fame will make room for two more after todays Cross Country State Championship in Natchitoches, La. Not one but two young ladies earned the honor in the girls 2A race on the chilly afternoon in November. 8th Grader Hailey Hesterman finished 3rd in the field running a 19:24 over the 3 mile course. Her finish makes her the highest placing cavalier in history to finish at the State Cross country meet. Finishing in front of Hailey were two seniors planning to carry on their running career on the collegiate level. This is very exciting for Hailey and our program. She ran like a little champion out there today. I think if she would have had another 400meters she may have taken the whole thing!
Little did we know that The excitment for the race was not over! Cavalier long shot Ashlen Grantham squeezed her way into the All State team finishing in the final spot, 10th today with an impressive time of 20:19. We knew going into the race that Ashlen could be a dark horse for top honors if she ran well. Ashlen is one that rises to competition and runs well under pressure. When she gave me a thumbs up with 1200meters to go I knew she had it in the bag! It was almost overwhelming to see these two young ladies on the podium. These girls set new sites for our program and our school. There are so many talented young females athletes at Calvary just waiting to break out. We hope Ashlen and Hailey are the first among many female All Staters across the board at Calvary. Over 300 distance runners start the season in cross country while only about half of that make it to the title meet. Out of those only the top ten are crowned first team All State. Congrats to our new All Staters! What a record breaking honor!

Ashlen and family you will be missed greatly! Thank you for your loyalty and love during your time here. Things will not be the same with out you guys and we pray that God continues to bless you all as you move toTexas! I will ensure Ashlen gets her pretty picture on that wall!!!!

On the team side the girls finished 6th overall out of 14 while the guys finished 8th out of 23 full teams. Some of the placements below are not exact. Official results should be posted soon. Overall we were pretty pleased today. The boys ran really well on this course last time they were here and either bested or ran very close to those times from just a few weeks ago despite the muddy conditions. Considering most of our team members on the guys side and several from the girls side are first year runners who have been at it less than six months ii would say they did as well as we could hope. We are looking forward to seeing Tim Kunkel get a few more years under his belt with Jason and Josh and we will miss our seniors (John, Jared, James, Mark, and Kaila) greatly! It was frustrating seeing John get knocked out of All State honors his senior year despite running faster than he did in 09 when he earned the honor but looking at the incredible depth of competiton on the guys side (6 of the top 10 COMPOSITE Ranked runners in the 2A race alone! Plus another stellar group ranked in the top 15 compositely.. It could have been anyone's day. ) he cannot be disappointed in this. On the girls side we had some outstanding preformances and some heart breakers. Having Nicole injured these last few weeks really set us back. These are things out of our control and I am proud of several of first year runners (shelby, faith, holly) for stepping up today despite their inexperience on the State stage. I am grateful Nicole gave it a try today and I was glad to see Kelsey recover from the last time she ran the course. The state meet course never claiimed to be fast or fun but you all made it through. Congrats on a great season!

John Broughton: 17:11-12th/ NSU invite: 17:08/2009: 17:16-8th
Josh Hudson:18:06-34th/Nsu invite:18:06/2009:18:43-35th
Jason Sibert:18:31-43rd/NSU invite:18:36/2009:19:11-47th
Jared Lupo:19:01-56th/Nsu invite: No time/2009: No time/4th runner:Eric Austin:18:54-39th
Tim Kunkel:19:11-58th/Nsu invite:19:00/2009: No time/5th runner:Dakota Rothell: 19:00-42nd
James Kunkel:19:46-73rd/Nsu invite:19:57/2009: No time/6th runner: Jason Sibert:19:11=47th
Mark Blume:22:07-114/Nsu invite: No time

Hailey Hesterman: 19:29-3rd/Nsu invite:20:20
Ashlen Grantham: 20:19-10th/Nsu invite:21:19/2009: 21:14-13th
Kelsey Wildes: 22:28-41st/Nsu invite:23:22/2009:22:08-21st
Shelby Dodson: 22:30-45th/Nsu invite:25:02/2009: No time/4th runner last year:Lindsey Kosin:22:54-37th
Faith Kunkel: 24:00-60th/Nsu invite:24:32/2009: No time/5th runner last year:Avery Watson:23:12-44
Nicole Kosin: 24:07-62nd/Nsu invite:22:25/2009:22:14-22nd/6th runner last year:Kaila Wildes:24:36-74th
Holly Dempsey:25:17-75th/Nsu invite:24:48/2009: No time: 7th runner:Chandler Falcon: 25:08

District/Parish Invitational

Coach Jeremy handing off the District Runner-up trophy to senior Jared Lupo

Congrats to everyone for a day of phenomenol personal records! The weather turned out perfect with temperatures in the low 40's which is excellent for distance running. Most everyone took advantage of the beautiful day to either best their previous time on the course or break a new personal record. For Hailey Hesterman and John Broughton the school 3 mile records were shattered today as well. The boys record has stood for four years and was held by Chase Rolland with a 16:28 respectively. John broke the record today by 18 seconds running a 16:10. Hailey broke her own previous school record by 28 seconds over the three miles. Ashlen Grantham proved she is ready to be considered within 2A's best as she broke her previous personal record by over a minute today running an incredible 19:57!!!! Kelsey Wildes also making noise breaking into the 21 range for the first time this season. Nicole Kosin and Shelby Dodson made a great tandum out there today looking strong in the low 22 range. Nicole is a great leader and has been very helpful in brining the younger girls along this season. Shelby has been an unbelievable asset to our team this year breaking barriers she didn't know she could even come close to! Faith Kunkel and late season bloomer Holly Dempsey both ran excellent times today rounding out our top seven that will proceed on to the State Championships on the 15th of this month. Hannah Ditt had a break through preformance today finishing the season on a high note with a great new PR of 25:20!!!! Kristen Ryder ran only the second three mile of her life and finished with a 24:57 almost eight minutes faster than what she ran just two weeks ago at her first varisty race. Kaila Wildes, Senior captain led the team well with encouragement and love and though today wasn't ideal for her. She is well loved and very appreciated for her leadership. Thank you for the memories. Congrats to the girls team for earning the District 1-2A title for the second year in a row!
Folllowing John in the boys race Josh Hudson continued his excellent streak of races by finishing with a 17:33. Jason Sibert, aka Seabiscuit, busted into the 17:00 range running an amazing 17:52 today! Tim Kunkel and Jared Lupo gutted it out running 18:14 and 18:32. Both are excellent competitors that know what it means to hurt and better yet welcome the pain! James Kunkel proved to himself and to the team today that he is BACK matching his previous best from the first of the year! I am so proud of his effort and his willingness to NOT give up! Mark Blume met his goal of running in the 21:00's today which makes his total drop time of 10:50 for the year!!! The guys finished up the day 2nd in District behind State power, Lakeside. Run like you did today at state and you will make a lot of noise!
I challenge you to give us your complete focus and dedication in the last 10 days of your training. No distractions and no regrets! Pray for our team as we move forward. Pray for healing and health. Pray for confidence and peace! Congrats on the progress you have made thus far. Don't stop here!!!

Thanks to the parents for your help today!!! The meet turned out great! Thanks to alumni members Hope Nichols: 2007 Captain, Lindsey Kosin: 2009 Captain, Caleb Brown: 2007 Captain, and Chase Rolland: 2009 Captain for coming out to the encourage the team. Despite the heat some good things got done today. On the guys side, five ran, five finished! Our boys placed sixth out of 16 teams. We suffered a little without team support and constant top five runner, Jared Lupo out today along with Mark Blume taking the ACT. The boys still had some great individual showings on the course. John Broughton rolled into another top ten finish this week finishing 9th out of 189 male runners. His time of 17:08 was his fastest ever on the NSU course. John has not finished outside of the top ten all year. A great feat considering the courses and competition we have encountered this year. Keep up the streak! Josh Hudson hauled in another fast time of 18:06 besting his previous time on the course by 37 seconds!!! Josh has been running smart the last few weeks and seeing some major results! Josh's time was enough to finish 29th overall and fifth in our district! Jason Sibert came to prove last weeks big drop was not just a fluke as he busted out another great 18:36 beating his previous time on the same course by 34 seconds enough for 43rd. Tim Kunkel looked strong again today finishing with a 19:00 and 53rd overall. James Kunkel rounded out our day with a 19:57 and 83rd
Girls placed third out of sixteen total teams trailing 4A State Runner-up, lead by National runner Kaitlyn Flattman, and their 4A foe Parkway high school who finished second.
The highlight of the day was Holly Dempsey's 76th finish out of 156 runners! Her placement came along side an 82 second drop from her PR just one week prior. The drop was enough for a nice 24:48 over three miles. Holly was the lone runner to set a personal record today. With her tiny body frame and running style Holly has great potential to continue being a BIG producer for our team. Leading the Lady Cavs in scoring today was eight grader, Haley Hesterman who finished fifth overall with a time of 20:26. Ashlen Grantham out ran several district rivals as well as local strengths to finish one spot out of the top ten and only seconds away from her personal record set last week. Nicole Kosin finished on par with a 22:23, enough for 30th while Kelsey Wildes finished 41st. Faith Kunkel rounded out our top five in the 24 range today finishing 67th While Shelby Dodson finished 84th. Kristen Ryder completed her first career 3 mile race today in 32:00. Hannah Ditt and Kaila Wildes were out today taking the ACT.
With State only three weeks away we enter in to the final phase of our training, the SPEED phase. If you have not gotten them already you will need to purchase spikes and bring them to our hard practices over the next three weeks. Spikes are very beneficial for the State meet and District courses.
This weekend is a training weekend and MANDATORY! We need this time to prepare. We will meet for practice that morning and then go on to watch the movie Secretariat as a team. Please make plans for this.
Special, loving note: We love the football team and offer them ALL of our support! HOWEVER: please do NOT let their games interfere with your rest and your body's preparation for YOUR sport and YOUR team! Something tells me your legs may have been a little heavier today than they should have been considering the activities the night before! :)

Next up: District Championships, November 6th 2010~CBA home course

For full results go to:
http://www.nsudemons.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=93076&SPID=11375&ATCLID=205017346&DB_OEM_ID=20000

Keep pressing on! He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots to the stream. It does not fear when the HEAT comes; its leaves are always green. It has NO WORRIES in a time of drought and NEVER fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

CBA girls cash out on another team victory this week finishing 1st in the 22nd annual Menard Invitational small school division. The guys pulled off a 4th place finish out of 16 full teams!

Today was by far the best our two teams have preformed as a unit all year. We had some major break throughs today mentally and physically which left us as coaches saying "WOW!" God has truly blessed our teams with ability. You are gaining strenth, confidence, and maturity in your racing with each week. We are right on track for the season.

In the girls race, 8th grader Hailey Hesterman easily outdistanced her competitors with an incredible new PR of 19:37 on the Hilly Fort Buhlow course in Alexandria, La. Ashlen Grantham returned to the scene today back to her old form breaking her previous PR set at the state meet last year by eight seconds! As a 7th grader, Ashlen is mature beyond her years in racing. She is calm, patient, and extremely competitive. I see her future only getting brighter! Kelsey and Nicole used their devastating closing kicks to suck up the competition again this week. I look for them to be breaking into the 21 range very soon. Their time is COMING! Shelby Dodson is a beast! She used this week to knock another minute off of her previous PR set just one week ago. (Keep doing that and you will be in the 22 range before you know it!)She safely led teammate Faith Kunkel to an all time best of 81 seconds! Faith had the highest drop of everyone this week! It is nice to see some of that hard work in practice transfer over to racing. Congrats on a big break through for Faithy! Kaila Wildes demonstrated consistency by finishing in the 25:00 range for the second week in a row. Holly dropped another five seconds off of her time this week. I look for her to be in the 25 range very soon! Hannah Ditt dealt with some frustrations today in not feeling well BUT we have plans to work past that and have her back full force by next week.
On the boys side, lead runner John Broughton got to handle adversity face to face when he was accidently directed off course. He and the four other lead runners added about 30 seconds to their time today as they had to be redirected on to course leaving them at the back of the pack. John fought his way through the crowd and ultimately managed to finish in the top 7! Though the time was not ideal this experience reminded us all of what we already know about John... He is a fighter and he is sound minded enough to make lemonade out of LEMONS! God has a plan and it is good. We believe as the bible says, you reap what you so at the proper time if you do not get tired of doing good. John, keep sowing. The time is coming to reap your harvest! Josh Hudson had an unbelievable career best breaking 18:00 minutes for the first time today. He has dropped over 3.5 minutes since he first started in 2008! Today must have been a day for break throughs as Jason Sibert outran his previous personal record today by 51 seconds!!!! I have NEVER seen him run with so much confidence and passion. We discussed earlier in the week that his time was coming soon and today it was nice to see his hard work pay off. Now that the barrier has been broken you are FREE to just run!!!! Go Seabiscuit! Tim Kunkel, Jason's usual training partner followed suit dropping another 30 seconds off of his PR last week and finishing 32nd. This finish was enought to earn a top 50 t-shirt! This comes as the first cross country shirt win of his career. Not to be out done, Jared Lupo snagged a top 50 shirt running well again this week . His nice response to passing 3 runners in black with 1200 to go helped secure our teams high placement. James Kunkel was back closer to his form this week dropping almost a minute off of the time he ran last week. Look for him to be in the 18:00's by season end. Mark Blume continues to creep downward as he ran another PR this week! Mark has had a new personal best in every race he has run this year!

Congrats to our teams. Let's keep building on this strong foundation, trusting in the Lord for our confidence and strength. Trust HIM and Trust the PLAN! HERE WE GO!

Ps. Jacob Brossette finished 17th today at the Jr. High State Championships. This placement was enough for Honorable mention All state.

*Last year the course was different due to flooding. Hailey Hesterman finished second with a tme of 20:11. Shelby Dodson rounded out the scoring card with a new personal record of over a minute running a 24:15 and finishing 33rd overall. Shelby's big step up this week put us in the running for the team title.Ashlen Grantham, Kelsey Wildes, and Nicole Kosin all ran persoanl season records finishing 11th-21:48, 13th-22:08, and 14th-22:09. Kelsey and Nicole's big sprint finish each passing two girls sealed the deal for the team victory. Faith Kunkel finished 6th for the team with a 25:03 and a 45th placement. Kaila Wildes, Holly Dempsey, and Hannah Ditt ran personal records for the season running 25:20-48th, 26:19- 52nd, 26:28 and 55th over the 3 mile course respectively. We are very proud of these efforts considering the hillly course. We are not satisfied with finishing first at invitational meets and we will continue to strive to reach our full potential for the season. Our goal is state. Remember it is not how you start but how you finish that counts! Expect coach to challenge you as an individual in the coming weeks to see your full potential shine by the state meet.

The boys finished 5th today out of 14 scoring teams. John Broughton held on to the number 4 spot after fighting off a host of hungry parkway panthers. John's fourth place finish of 17:06 was 33 seconds faster this year than on last years course. Josh Hudson finished second for the team today running an 18:24-25th. Diamond buff, Jared Lupo finished as the Cavilier #3 man running a 19:14 and finishing 35th. This time was a 25 second personal best for Lupo. Tim Kunkel, 19:15-36th and Jason Sibert, 19:20-37th rounded out the team scoring with the later of the two earning a seasonal best by 30 seconds. James Kunkel was the 6th finisher for the cavaliers. Mark Blume continues to close the gap on his teammates as he covered the course in 22:48 beating his previous best by a full minute. 6th grader Jacob Brossette made his 3 mile cross country debut today completing the varsity course in a time of 24:10 and beating over 20 runners. Jacob will compete next week at the elementary state championships. As a team the boys continue to make indivdual improvements. We need to focus on using our work outs to prepare us for race day instead of thinking of it as a form of punishment. Get ready to amp up the game in the next few weeks! Alot of you have some talent that hasn't been seen. Prepare to be unleashed. The tiny eigth grader set a new course record running a 19:47 and winning the Varsity girls three mile race by over a minute. Hailey has been very patient over the last few weeks waiting to run for the Varsity team. She was chomping at the bit to get her chance to run and she got it today. No one deserved to win more than she did and we are so proud of her. This little girl is the real deal and she will do great things at Calvary and years beyond if she sticks with it. Teammates Ashlen Grantham and Kelsey Wildes also finished with top ten honors placing eigth and ninth respectively in the 70 person race.
Reigning State 4A XC champ, Mitch Landry (Haughton)and 2A State Track Champ Enrique Soto(Lakeside) battled for the individual title in the boys race with Landry coming out on top in the 107 man race. The top five finishers in the race were all current All Staters throughout thier respective divisions. Calvary's own All Stater, John Broughton rounded out the top five with a new personal record of 16:58 over three miles. John has really come a long way in such a short career of running. He is starting only his second year of cross country and has already developed a resume that takes years for most kids to develop. Coach Jeremy and I love this kid and believe he has what it takes to go on to the next level. Teammates Josh Hudson:18:24, James Kunkel: 18:47, and Mark Blume also shared personal bests for thier career today. The talent in the boys race was unbelievable! It is nice to see North Louisiana runners with the ability to not only do something individually state wide but also to battle for some team honors.
5 A power, CE Byrd won the girls varsity division with Cedar Creek and Calvary closely trailing while Parkway and Choudrant finished first and second on the boys side.

Meet Notes-Choudrant Aggie Invite

Jake Foster celebrates his top 7 team shirt with a victory Cartwheel!

Details: First Meet: Rolling Hills with woods. Not only did John finish as an All-Stater in the 2A classification (8th place) but officials from the LHSAA just informed us that the junior earned a spot on the All-State COMPOSITE top 25 list! John's performance today put him in the 25th spot by .5 seconds making him the first ever from Calvary to make the list and the only 2A boy from mid to North La to qualify. The composite list tallies the best performances from ALL of the classifications (Class B to 5A) over the State Meet course. Over 800 boys participated in the State meet. (Note:On average the race times were about 45 seconds off for every race this year due to the course conditions. )

The boys team finished out the 2A competition 6th out of the 22 full teams that qualified for the State meet. Landon Roach finished 28th (18:39) honorably competing despite being recently diagnosed with mono. Though he was quite disappointed with his time and placement. I am quite impressed with the young man after all he has been through over the last few weeks. (Running only one and a half times in two weeks before the State competition due to the illness.) Landon was obviously not 100% today but gave all he could out there which says a lot about his character. He even explained before the race that he was going to hang on for as long as he could to help John reach his goals. That is selflessness!!! 8th grader Josh Hudson was 33rd (18:43), Sophomore ERic Austin 37th (18:54), 8th grader Dakota Rothell 40th (19:00), Sophomore Jason Sibert 45th (19:10), and 8th grader Austin Grantham rounded out the team finishing 64th (19:55) out of 150 competitors in the 2 A race.
We were hoping for the top five today but we were unaware that a total of 6 more schools had been thrown into the 2 A competition this year as compared with last. That along with loosing 4 of our top six boys from last year (Chase, Zac, Chris, and Hunter), and Landon's unexpected illnesss.... i would say our boys did quite well considering:) We are not disappointed at all. The great news is that no one will be graduating!!!
On the girls side, 6th grader Ashlen Grantham was the highest Calvary finisher of the day with a 14th place! Needless to say Ashlen was the youngest finisher in the top 20. Her time of 21:10 set a brand new school record on the cold, windy, and super muddy course. Freshman Kelsey Wildes and Sophomore Nicole Kosin finished 21st (22:08) and 22nd (22:14) while Senior Lindsey Kosin (22:54) and Junior Avery Watson (23:12) placed 37th and 44th rounding out our scoring card. Junior Kaila Wildes was 74th(24:36) while Sophomore Chandler Falcon was 84th (25:08) in a field of 131 runners.
The girls made a huge jump this year earning 5th place in the STATE!!! They edged out 6th place Newman by only 2 points. This has been thier goal all year so I am extremely proud of them. It was just one year ago that they finished 11th with the highest team finisher earning the 40th spot. 21 full teams were represented on the girls side at the Championships this year.

Thanks to Mr. Guerrero, Pastor Rick, and Ryan Edmonds for making the trip! This meant the world to the kids and to us as coaches to see and feel your support!!!
Thanks to all of the parents for all of your hard work this year. We are very proud of our kids and couldn't ask for a better group of families to be our extended family:)
The Awards banquet for the year will be at the Heberts December 6th at 6:00-8:00pm. More details to come.
We are still awaiting the votes from the final Small School Composite list ! So you must not get tired of doing good."
Race Recap:
Ten schools particpating: Cedar Creek, Choudrant, West Quachita, Byrd, Haughton, Lakeside, Parkway, Sarepta, CBA, and one I am missing. I will get full results later. Just a note that last year as a team the boys finished 4th behind Choudrant, Byrd, and Parkway. The girls didn't even make a whole team. Wow! I know I am hard on you guys but I know what you are capable of and I want to help bring it out of you. Keep working hard and take my tough as nails routine as a sign of LOVE;)
Varsity Girls results:
Cedar creek: Champions: 48
CBA: Team Runner up-66
Year to Year comparison: Look at the Improvement in both teams!
Girls runners from 2007 to 2009
1.(07)27:42-Hope to (08)24:37-Avery to (09)Kelsey:22:40 (7th)
2.(07)28:14-Kalia to (08)25:26- Kalia to (09)Ashlen: 22:46 (8th)
3.(07)29:02- Shelby to (08)26:13-Kaitlynn to (09)Avery: 23:50 (12th)
4.(07)33:36-Kaitlynn to (08)26:39-Shelby to (09)Nicole: 24:23 (17th)
5. I can't wait to see what she can do in the years to come. We sure are glad to have Kaitlynn back after an ankle injury!

This year to Last year comparison:

Kelsey Wildes: 21:42- Nicole: 24:34
Kalia Wildes: 22:57-Kalia: 25:02
Avery Watson: 23:32-Lindsey: 25:18
Shelby Taylor: 24:08-Jordan: 25:27
Kaitlynn Ware: 26:00-Hope: 25:33
Abby Watkins: 26:32

Chase is only three seconds off of his All-State time from last year. That means he is about two weeks ahead of schedule. I look for a 15-20 second drop come State meet time. BUT we have to have our two and three step up for the Championships they are about a minute off of schedule. Extra credit for Chris Norton who has been very consistent and hard working the entire year. Glad to have Zac back competing since his injury two weeks ago.

This year to last year comparison (times taken from the State meet which is where all of our boys had PR's last year). Check out our STRONG back half! All of our guys are better than our last guy last year.
Chase Rolland: 16:59-Chase:16:56
Zac Overstreet: 17:10-Zac: 17:59
Landon Roach: 18:09-Corey:18:53
Dakota Rothell: 18:54-Caleb:19:19
Chris Norton: 19:17-Hunter: 19:58
Hunter Gauntlett:19:22-Dylan:21:19
Jason Sibert:19:24
Josh Hudson:20:55

We will have all kids meet at the Norton's at 5:30 pm for pizza and a team meeting this Friday night 11/07/08. I expect to see ALL of my girls healthy and competing by NSU! Our goal at State is to get as many people under 50th place as possible and to place as a team higher than 10th. Last year the 50th time was 24:42 and our best girl finished 53rd. We had decent performances from the girls who did race today all of you placing in the top 50 and earning t-shirts which is an honor. I still believe we could have raced better had everyone been mentally prepared.
*Your official times were not posted when we left. I will post those as soon as I recieve them.
Abby: Great job on the 2mile:Your new official PR for 2mile is 17:36

Boys: I am extremely proud of you all. You took the challenge I gave you today to heart and it showed in your performances. Thank you for stepping up and giving all you had in the race. That is what I want to see every time whether we are missing a teammate or not. I noticed great improvement in Hunter and Jason this week. Last year, we did not have five guys under twenty minutes until the State meet and this year we have the top seven under 20 already! Woah Nelly:)Once again do not become complacent but continue to strive for improvement giving God the glory and honor.
Russell great job on the two mile: 15:38

Chase:9th:17:30
Landon: 24th: 18:04
Dakota: 40st: 18:53
Chris: 51st:19:15
Hunter: 60th: 19:36
Jason: 67th: 19:48
Josh: 81st:21:12

Team Finish: 7th out of 16 scoring teams and 20 teams present. 132 runners competed.

EVERYONE:
Do what you have to do to get your body healthy and ready to race. We only have three meets left so we have no more room for injuries, excuses, or slacking! We you come to practice come with your game face on!!!! Training and racing on BIG Hills make a runners legs strong and will help build endurance which in turn will reduce overall fatigue on a "REGULAR" course. I am glad we got this race in! I was pleased with times this weekend considering the course. Competition was tough to say the least and I was proud of how you all handled yourselves against real deal competiton.

Tips and comments for each athlete:

GIRLS:I would like to see a closer gap time again with you at Menard. This week we had way too much space between our 2-3 runners! Our girls are all about the same level esp in practice and should race as such!
Kalia, you looked very strong and confident out there. REmember to relax your face when fatigue sets in.. when your face tightens your shoulders follow and so on.
Kelsey had a strong race as did Kaitlynn. Kelsey, you need to be to the right or left of Kalia if at all possible. You can do it!
Kaitlynn, i have been extremely proud of your efforts over the last few weeks. You are like a brand new runner and I commend you for continuing to work hard!
Avery you have been doing great. We discussed working again on your stride length and turn over in order to eliminate the choppy short stride you acquire during exhaustion. You are not racing yet to your capability probably due to not feeling well recently. We might need to discuss backing you down on "extra" workouts during the week in PE in order to get your racing where it needs to be.
Shelby, had a great finish this week and continued to move up throughout the race. I still think you are capable of a lot more and I am glad you are back on board!!!

*Remember the white on rice and/or the WOLF PACK mentality. We have to move through the race together or very near one another. We will get another chance to do that at the Menard meet but this time it will be against other schools that are considered to be in the "small school division" It is important we prepare ourselves mentally and physically for this race as it will give us a good gage as to where we stand state wide.

BOYS:Chase: Great finish this week. You looked much stronger this week as compared to last week and a top ten finish at this race was a great accomplishment. Please praise yourself.
Zac:Nice effort this week from Zac! It was nice to see you running up front with Chase again... To the right or left of Chase is where you belong!
Landon... way to hang in there. My dream is see you all cross the line together in a top ten fashion:) We still have a lot of work to do if that is going to come to pass this year but we are well on the way. You have had a great first season so far. Keep working hard.
Dakota is right where he needs to be for a team 5th runner and is doing an amazing job. Can you believe he is only in the 8th grade???? Talk about an individual that can rise to competition. The problem is he is running #4 for our team with older guys who can and should be moving up! I know that Chris is capable of running with him and we def missed him this week but it sure would be nice to have one of you guys in between Landon and Dakota for a more dominate team standing!
Hunter and Jason looked much better this week than in the past few weeks and I was proud of thier efforts.
Congrats to Josh on completing his first 3 mile Varsity race. Not a bad time for a first timer:) Again, like with the girls the key is going to be running together and up front. WHITE ON RICE!

Again, great job this weekend. I am unsure of official results but will post those team standings asap:Individuals:Kalia: 23:29Kelsey: 23:46Kaitlynn/Avery: 25:16Shelby: 25:33
GT:2:04Last week GT: 1:16

Chase:CONGRATS for a top ten finish!!! We still have some work to do for a top five spot at District but we are well on the way. On the boys side we had some okay preformances and some FABULOUS preformances. Extra props this week to our new comer to Varsity Dakota Rothell. Dakota really came up big for the boys team placing in the top 20 and stepping up as a number 4 man for the team. I was pleased on EVERYONE's finish this week on both sides and want you to continue to "change gears" when it's time to finish. Remember to RUN through the line.. Not just to the line. Team championships are won and lost this way!

-Remember to take your coaches ques during the race! If we say "Go now"at the finish or "focus on Blue" we say it for a reason. When the sun comes up, you better be running.

School Distance Records and Awards

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px;
