NSU PRE STATE

The teams got their first go at the State Meet Course in Natchitoches, La today in low 80 degree temperatures, unseasonally warm for late cross season. Despite the heat some good things got done today. On the guys side, five ran, five finished! Our boys placed sixth out of 16 teams. We suffered a little without team support and constant top five runner, Jared Lupo out today along with Mark Blume taking the ACT. The boys still had some great individual showings on the course. John Broughton rolled into another top ten finish this week finishing 9th out of 189 male runners. His time of 17:08 was his fastest ever on the NSU course. John has not finished outside of the top ten all year. A great feat considering the courses and competition we have encountered this year. Keep up the streak! Josh Hudson hauled in another fast time of 18:06 besting his previous time on the course by 37 seconds!!! Josh has been running smart the last few weeks and seeing some major results! Josh's time was enough to finish 29th overall and fifth in our district! Jason Sibert came to prove last weeks big drop was not just a fluke as he busted out another great 18:36 beating his previous time on the same course by 34 seconds enough for 43rd. Tim Kunkel looked strong again today finishing with a 19:00 and 53rd overall. James Kunkel rounded out our day with a 19:57 and 83rd
Girls placed third out of sixteen total teams trailing 4A State Runner-up, lead by National runner Kaitlyn Flattman, and their 4A foe Parkway high school who finished second.
The highlight of the day was Holly Dempsey's 76th finish out of 156 runners! Her placement came along side an 82 second drop from her PR just one week prior. The drop was enough for a nice 24:48 over three miles. Holly was the lone runner to set a personal record today. With her tiny body frame and running style Holly has great potential to continue being a BIG producer for our team. Leading the Lady Cavs in scoring today was eight grader, Haley Hesterman who finished fifth overall with a time of 20:26. Ashlen Grantham out ran several district rivals as well as local strengths to finish one spot out of the top ten and only seconds away from her personal record set last week. Nicole Kosin finished on par with a 22:23, enough for 30th while Kelsey Wildes finished 41st. Faith Kunkel rounded out our top five in the 24 range today finishing 67th While Shelby Dodson finished 84th. Kristen Ryder completed her first career 3 mile race today in 32:00. Hannah Ditt and Kaila Wildes were out today taking the ACT.
With State only three weeks away we enter in to the final phase of our training, the SPEED phase. If you have not gotten them already you will need to purchase spikes and bring them to our hard practices over the next three weeks. Spikes are very beneficial for the State meet and District courses.
This weekend is a training weekend and MANDATORY! We need this time to prepare. We will meet for practice that morning and then go on to watch the movie Secretariat as a team. Please make plans for this.
Special, loving note: We love the football team and offer them ALL of our support! HOWEVER: please do NOT let their games interfere with your rest and your body's preparation for YOUR sport and YOUR team! Something tells me your legs may have been a little heavier today than they should have been considering the activities the night before! :)

Next up: District Championships, November 6th 2010~CBA home course
